Virtual and immersive reality technologies to embark on a journey to learn the secrets of longevity in Ogliastra, one of the five blue zones in the world where people live the longest, and promote the natural, cultural, social and lifestyle peculiarities of centenarians.
Thus was born the Ogliastra Visitor Center officially inaugurated this morning at the Convitto Agrario di Tortolì in the presence of representatives of the Industrial Consortium, the Province of Nuoro, the municipality of Tortolì and the ITS Blue Zone Foundation. The Visitor Center is a complex space where citizens and tourists can literally immerse themselves in the extraordinary life of the centenarians of this area of Sardinia characterized by an active lifestyle, a pristine and wild environment, healthy food in which legumes, vegetables, meats and cheeses from domestic farms prevail, and, of course, the slow pace of small communities in which sociability, affectivity and respect for the elderly only come first.
Longevity is, therefore, the absolute protagonist of this fascinating journey. The Visitor Centre in Tortolì is promoted by the Industrial Consortium of the Province of Ogliastra with The Autonomous Region of Sardinia – Department of Tourism. Through the use of VR Visors visitors can immerse themselves, through the technology of virtual reality, in a digital environment that tells the story of longevity in all its aspects: through the use of videos, the user enters a virtual world capable of arousing the pleasure of experiencing a unique corner of Sardinia, a space in which they can move and interact with their surroundings.
A tool for learning about men and women who have passed the century mark. It is they who accompany the visitor on a virtual walk in nature or through the streets of their countries, through hands that are intertwined in their affections, work or simple passions of a lifetime.
In the Visitor Center set up in Tortolì, you can experience the Immersive Room, a physical space where the virtual enters the scene thanks to sensors and video projections and the viewer becomes the protagonist of a story. All the nuances of the Ogliastra of centenarians become the stage for a 360-degree storytelling that can engage young and old in a truly unique experience.
The Visitor Centre in Tortolì, where the extraordinary photos of Ogliastra’s centenarians (taken by film photographer Romolo Eucalitto), a symbol of one of the five areas of the world where people live more than anywhere else, consists of interactive environments where there are screens that – with images, videos and sounds – also through touch mode complete the narrative of the multimedia tale of Ogliastra.
The ultimate intent is to bring about an experience through the use of new technologies, with the task of drawing attention through sensory experiences, stimulating or recreating certain moods and feelings, creating stimuli and inviting action.
